Adoptable Dogs

Click to jump to:      DASHA          DASKO

When you are ready to give a dog a home, the best way to make that happen is to rescue one. Because we believe in this so strongly we have created a page on our site that will continually display an up to date list of dogs available for adoption. For the most part, these will be dogs that are in Lunenburg County.

On this page we will be listing rehabilitated dogs that are available from Golden Mountain Dog Solutions, as well as others that we have come to know require adoption from other locations. In addition, we have opened a direct feed from the Petfinder website which publishes a rolling listing of dogs available from its registered membership that is made up of not for profit animal rescue organizations and veterinary practices. Please note that, unless stated otherwise, we have not worked with any of the dogs listed on this page.

Dasha

Dasha is a beautiful seven year old pure bred German Shepherd from Unica Kennels in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. She is spayed, house-broken and knows and obeys basic obedience commands. She is overweight right now and tires quickly when walking, but a good, healthy diet coupled with proper exercise built up a little at a time will help her to shed that weight.

Dasha has been under-socialized, and is very timid, so she has learned to keep away the things that scare her by a show of aggression. She is very trainable, and takes direction well. During our assessment visit she abandoned her distrust of us in less than an hour. This points to a sound footing for a complete rehabilitation with the right owner.

Dasha would do very well in a home with someone who both knows and understands German Shepherds, and is prepared to commit the time to bring out the best in her. She will need to be put on a program of gradual desensitization to the things that set her off, and led with a gentle but firm and understanding hand. An overly harsh demonstration of force would only set her back, so she needs someone who is not afraid to patiently work through her issues. She comes with our complete, hands on support in making this happen.

More information about Dasha will be posted as we get to know her better. If you are interested in applying to adopt her, or have any questions about Dasha, contact us.

Dasko

This gorgeous boy is Dasko, a five-year old pure-bred German Shepherd. He was brought over from Germany to be a stud dog for Unica Kennels. We have not had the pleasure of working with Dasko ourselves, but we are extremely lucky to have a dog from a litter he sired, and she is wonderful!

Dasko's former owner was a police officer who trained him very well in obedience. You can watch a small sample of that in the video below (Dasko is the darker of the two dogs, on the right). Unfortunately, Dasko's owner died suddenly, and he was adopted by a couple who love him dearly, but find him to be too much of a handful for their lifestyle.

Dasko is an extremely smart and high energy dog. He loves to play with Frisbees, balls, anything he can fetch, and he very much loves swimming and playing in the water. He is very well behaved in the house and in the car, and thrives when he is with his people.

Dasko has never been socialized to small children, and he is quite territorial when it comes to other male dogs, whether they are neutered or not. He has snapped at strangers who surprised him or touched him before he was comfortable, and has gotten into fights with other dogs over toys, so whoever adopts him would need to work with him on those issues. He cannot go to a home with small children, other male dogs, or cats. He would do very well with an active person or couple who have time to challenge him both physically and mentally.

If you're interested in adopting Dasko or would like more information about him, please contact us. Dasko is currently located in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
